Home Sweet Home

Well the good news is that I didn't have to get all the way cut open and I was able to come home last night.  It was a long day to say the least.  I had to be there at 11:45 am but my surgery wasn't scheduled until 1:00 pm.  Then they ended up being 2 hours behind schedule because one of the doctors pregnant patients went into labor (the hard part about having an OBGYN doing your surgery).  So I finally got into surgery at about 3:30 and woke up around 7:00.  It took him about 2 1/2 hours to get it all out.  He said that if he thought he could save the ovary then he would cut me open, but if the ovary was already gone he would just take it all.  Turns out that the cyst had "consumed" the ovary so he was able to just take it all by making three smaller cuts.  Well "small" is not really what I would call the 3 inch cut on my left side, but much better then the huge cut it could have been.  The other cut is only one inch on the right side and then he did something through my belly button too.

Can I tell you how much I HATE coming out of Anastasia?  I always feel like I just got hit by a bus.  It is hard to breath, you are in pain and just want to sleep and the nurse just wants you to wake up.  It sucks.  It took me a while to be well enough to be moved back to my room where Tony was.  Even there I was still feeling so sick.  I dreaded having to get ready to go home and wished that I was going to stay so that I didn't have to get up -- I just wanted to sleep.

About 8:00 pm I started getting ready to go and left the hospital at about 8:30.  I was the only one left on the whole floor from same day surgery (pretty sad).  Tony took me home and got me to bed.  As soon as I laid down I totally threw up all the water and ice chips I had from the hospital.  Lucky for us we took the little throw up bags home with us so no mess was made.  Tony still needed to go and get my pain medication so he called my mom to come and sit with me so he could leave.  My mom and Teagan came over and chatted with me while Tony was out.  It was nice to talk with them and she said that they would come over again today.

I would like to say that I got a really good night sleep, but I didn't at all.  I am a side sleeper but with these cuts I can't lay on my side I have to lay on my back.  So it was hard to be comfortable, plus I had to use the potty about 10 times and something seems to be wrong with my bladder because it doesn't come out like it should (probably too much information for a blog - oh well).  About 4:00 am I took some more medication and moved to the recliner in the front room.  I got a couple of good hours sleep, so that was good.  My back is pretty achy from laying on it for so long and my stomach hurts, but all in all I'm doing pretty good.  It could be a lot worse and I am glad that he didn't have to do the big cut that required the way long recovery.  I just hope that I can get some decent sleep sometime soon - I sure need it!
