We started our day by driving up to Primary Children's Hospital. We arrived early but still went in to get all registered and checked in.
It's a good thing that we were early because the patient that was suppose to be before us didn't get their Covid test so they had to wait for surgery until they could get tested, which moved us ahead of them in the schedule.
Josh did good staying calm until he got changed into his hospital clothes. He got really nervous and started crying and praying (it was kind of adorable with his hands clasped and his eyes closed). Because of this the doctor recommended some "chill" medicine. This medicine takes about a half an hour to kick in so they decided to have Tyler go to surgery first (Josh was scheduled first).
Tyler was in good spirits and after multiple hugs he was wheeled off to surgery.
Josh then received his "chill" meds which quickly kicked in. He started talking funny and saying funny thing and then he was asleep. Then Dr. Hill came in and told us that Tyler was all done and did really good. Dr. Hill said that they were large tonsils that were touching in the back and he should start breathing a lot better.
About five minutes after that the anesthesiologist came in and wheeled Josh into his surgery. We waited about 15 minutes and they called us from recovery and said that Tyler was trying to wake up but was sleepy. Then about 15 minutes later they brought Tyler in from recovery. He was awake but was in pain. He did not feel good. We made sure he was sipping his water and slushy and slowly let him wake up.
In the meantime Dr. Hill came into the room to let us know that he was done with Josh. He said Josh did really good also. He said his tonsils were even bigger and even touched together when he shut his mouth. He thinks they both will breath much better and get better sleep and be able to be more active. They called us from recovery and said that Josh was still super sleepy. When they brought him into the room he was totally out of it sleepy. They were able to give him some Tylenol in recovery so that was good. Josh was so sleepy and I just let him sleep.
Tony and I would go back and forth from each of the kids rooms to check on them. Tyler slowly started waking up and ate a popsicle and eventually some ice cream. Josh was out cold until he woke up and was pretty much wide awake. He asked if it was all over and wanted some water. Then he ate a popsicle and was feeling pretty good. He wasn't in much pain, like Tyler was.
Since they were both looking pretty good we got them dressed and discharged from the hospital. Tyler threw up from the wheel-chair ride down to the car, but did not thrown up again. Tyler was pretty awake and feeling okay the rest of the day today. He wanted to be on the couch in the front room and play the computer. I was shocked he didn't just want to sleep.
Josh wanted to sit on the couch too, but fell asleep right away and had a good nap. While they rested I went to pick up some Tylenol from Costco and then pick up their medicine lollipops from the compounding pharmacy. After that I picked up the girls from Margie's who let them sleep over the night before. They were excited to come home and see the boys.
After his nap Josh wanted his computer and he sat up and wasn't feeling too bad. I gave them both popsicles and then later Josh told me he was hungry and asked what was for dinner. I gave them both some Jell-O, but Josh was still hungry. He decided he wanted some Mac and Cheese. I was worried that was too much for him to eat the same day as surgery, but I made it. Josh ate the whole bowl of pasta. Tyler did not want real food and was happy with some pudding. It has been very interesting to see how these boys are recovering from surgery. Their experiences have been very different so far. They both decided they wanted to sleep on the couch tonight. I gave them some medicine right before they went to sleep and told them that if they wake up and have pain to get me and I would give them some more. I am hoping that they get a good nights sleep. It's been a long day but I am so thankful that everything went well and they are on their way to recovery.
