Summer Trip 2020 - Day 5 (Cont.): Crapping, Candy Store, Gino's, & S'mores

After our treat at Facerock, we then went back to the cottages so that Tony could get some work done while we went crabbing.  I took the kids and drove to the docks to watch the crabbers in action.  It was cold on the docks, but super fun seeing the crabs and the harbor seals.  Tyler really wasn't interested at all, but the other three loved it.  Josh loved holding the crab and helping them get back into the water.  Megan and Allie liked watching them bring up the nets and seeing what was in them.  After a while we were all done, so we packed up and went back to the cottages.

We were going to have the crab feed that night, but they didn't get enough crab, so they cooked up what they had for Gabe to take home.  While the crab was cooking, Papa G handed out the dollar bills to the kids so they could go to the corner store and buy some treats.  The kids always look forward to this and it is a fun tradition.

Since we didn't eat dinner there, we all went to Gino's pizza for dinner.  They have a big party room that we were able to have.  We about filled it up.  It was fun to all eat together.  After dinner we went back and had a fire by the cottages and the kids had s'mores.  Another great day on the Oregon Coast.

Summer Trip 2020 - Day 5: Farmer's Market, Boardwalk, & Lunch

We started this day with feeding the kids some breakfast and then the adults went out to breakfast to the Cape Cafe.  They have the best sausage gravy.  Tony and I shared a yummy meal and then came back to the cottages to get the kids ready to go to the farmer's market.

We love the farmer's market.  We got some cute homemade bags for the girls, fudge, and of course yummy blueberries.
After we saw all the things, we got pictures on the boardwalk (as always).  The others left to go start crabbing off the docks, but we stayed and ate lunch on the boardwalk.  Tony had always wanted to try the halibut and chips from the floating restaurant, so this was perfect timing.  Megan, Josh, and Tyler also wanted to have fish and chips.  Allie had some fries and I watched.  It was a fun atmosphere.
I wanted a sandwich from a yummy place near there, but they were super busy with a line out the door.  I didn't want to wait, so I suggested we go to Facerock for some ice cream.  They also have food there, so I figured I would find something to eat there.  We really like that place, so it was all yummy stuff.

Summer Trip 2020 - Day 4: Bunker Hike, Cape Arago & Sunset Beach

On Tuesday morning Megan and I went for a walk along the beach looking for seashells.  We were able to find a couple of good ones before we had to go back to get ready for a new hike to see a bunker.

This hike wasn't far from where we were staying, but far enough we needed to drive.  We had never been on this hike, so we weren't sure what to expect.  It wasn't a long hike, but it did go up hill for a lot of the way.  Once we got to the top, we found the bunker.  It had lots of graffiti.  Some of it was pretty cool, other very inappropriate.  They had gloves and spray paint there for people to add their tags.  Boyd sprayed "Come to Papa G's Crab Shack."  Then drew a crab.  It was pretty funny.  His first tag ever.

After the hike we drove up to Cape Arago.  We love it there too.  We walked down to see the seals.  Sometimes we can hear them, but not this day.  We did see a big group of seals, but not very close.  Good thing we had our binoculars.  Everyone wanted turns seeing the seals.

After the seals we went to the lookout point.  We had seen whales there before and were hopeful that we would see one again.  We got lucky and totally saw a whale.  We would see him spout his spout and then he would dive down and show us his beautiful tail.  It was so fun to watch him.

We then went back and had lunch at our cottage before getting ready to go play at Sunset Beach.  Boyd and Julie got all the beach toys and met us all there.  The weather cleared up and was perfect for us to play in the water.  We all loved the kayaks, paddle boards, sand boards, and sand toys.  I got to admit, kayaking sure is fun.  We all had a glorious time at Sunset Beach.  After the beach we went back to our cottage and made tacos for dinner.  Then we enjoyed the evening hanging out with the family outside the cottages.

Summer Trip 2020 - Day 3: Playing on the Coast

We had a busy, fun, and relaxing day on Monday.  We walked the beach in the morning, and it was so pretty.  The older kids went off to explore the beach and then Tony and I followed.  It is always so nice to walk on the beautifully cool Oregon beach.
After the beach we came back to the cottages to hang out.  I got out our Kosh ball rackets and we had a competition in the street in front of our cottage.  It was fun to see how many times we could volley the ball back and forth without dropping it.  It was fun to have adults, teens, and the younger kids all wanting to play.
We then ate lunch in our cottage before going on a hike up above the beach.  It is a fun hike that we found last year, and all really like.  The teens were there working on their movie while the rest of us hiked around.
We decided to eat at Burger and Shake for dinner.  We even all fit in the restaurant.  The food was good and then we all went to Mangus Park.  It is a pretty park with a path around a pond that is fun to walk around.  The teens walked around the pond playing Pokémon Go and the younger kids played on the playground.  By the end, all the kids were playing floor is lava on the playground.  It was pretty fun watching the teens playing like the little kids.
We then all went back to the cottages to get ready for bed.  It was a fun, busy day that was also super chill and wonderful.

Summer Trip 2020 - Day 2: Hermiston to Coos Bay

The next morning, we ate breakfast and then checked out of the hotel. We then started our journey towards Coos Bay. We stopped in Salem to go to their Costco to get gas, use the bathroom, and eat lunch.  We then drove the rest of the way to Coos Bay.  We stopped at Facerock Creamery for some ice cream before we went to Walmart to pick up food for the week.  After shopping we drove to the cottages and unloaded the car.

We bought a lasagna for dinner, so I got that put into the oven right away.  Tony took the kids to the beach while I got us unpacked.  After we were unpacked and still had an hour on the lasagna, we put chairs together outside and a bunch of the family chatted outside of our cottages.  The kids all started working on their movie that they like to make while we are in Oregon.

Our dinner finally got cooked and we ate.  Later that evening the kids worked more on their movie while the ladies walked around the RV park. I think the dudes got some peace and quiet in the cottages.  Well-deserved after a long day of driving. It started getting dark, so we all called it a night.

Summer Trip 2022 - Day 1: SLC to Hermiston, OR

We left about 7:00 am on Saturday morning.  We drove to Hermiston, Oregon on the first day.  The drive was nice without any problems.  We checked into our hotel and went straight for the pool after getting our stuff put in our room.

The pool was little cool, but we didn't mind.  We all had fun playing in the pool.  We played a lot of water ball, catch, and keep away.  After we had enough, we got showered and dressed before going out to dinner.  We asked the front desk staff about a good restaurant to go to and that is where we went.  The food was decent, and we were able to get a table right away.  After dinner we went back to the hotel and got ready for bed.  We all enjoyed relaxing for the rest of the evening.

Summer Baseball 2022

Summer baseball is officially over.  Tyler did pretty good.  He pitched in a couple games and that was fun to watch.  They didn't ever win, but they worked hard and had fun, even in the heat.
